Our Class

Fall 2026 Program

From seven students to a nationwide learning community, Coding for Medicine continues to grow, driven by curiosity, research, and a passion for computational biology.

Many of you asked about Fall classes, and I promised to send you an update by mid-to-late September. It is already mid-October, and I apologize for the delay. Usually after the end of summer classes, I spend a lot of time helping our research students with their projects. That work took longer than I anticipated.

Let me feature one such project among many excellent ones. Guhan Thiagarajan, who has been working with me since mid-2025, made impressive contributions, and I wrote about his work here and here.

Artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) Module

In addition to research, I got busy with another project that you may find helpful. I am developing a new AI/ML tutorial series featuring both text-based and video lessons. This series is suitable for anyone with a working knowledge of Python, including NumPy and Pandas.

My goal is to make this one of the most accessible and easy-to-follow introductions to AI/ML concepts and tools. Teaching these topics to high-school students over the past two summers helped me tremendously in finding ways to simplify complex ideas for easier learning.

If you like to receive early updates, please sign up here. The form also includes links to a few lessons posted online.

Coding Gene.us Challenge

Before talking about the summer classes, let me remind you that the deadline for registering for the Coding Gene.us challenge is coming up.

I encourage all of our students to join. You can pick a new and interesting topic that you do not know well but wanted to learn, and try to simplify it for others. It is called Feynman technique for learning. Check here and here.

Fall Classes

A. Calculus/precalculus Meets Coding

This is a fun module to learn the key ideas in calculus and precalculus. I taught this module several times in the past, and the students enjoyed it. In fact, the dad of one students found it so helpful for her daughter that he requested us to offer it again, when his son started high school.

It is open to anyone with good understanding of algebra (linear equations, slope, etc.), and you do not need to know precalculus. Advanced middle-schoolers are also welcome.

The classes are split into six submodules (3 weeks each) and will start in Nov. You do not have to sign up for all 6. You can start with the first two and continue if you like it. Please check here for details and to sign up.

B. Introductory/Intermediate Coding for Medicine

We are planning to have classes on our introductory and intermediate Coding for Medicine module this fall starting in November (2026). The classes will take place every weekend. Also, the students can communicate with the instructor throughout the week using direct messages available in our classroom.

The topics covered will be a hybrid of the introductory and the intermediate modules.

If you are interested, please sign up in this form.

C. Yearlong problems

If you like to do something more asynchronous, please check our yearlong modules. Details are available here.
