Module - Calculus Meets Coding

Overview

  • It is an abridged version of longer modules on calculus and precalculus to be offered during the coming fall, winter and spring. Please check https://mathmeetscoding.com for details. I developed these modules to explain the key concepts of calculus without getting bogged down in math.
  • Key innovations -
  • - I teach calculus before precalculus. The students do not need to know anything more than algebra and geometry to start learning calculus. That was not only the historical order of developments, but is also highly beneficial. The students get to see the beauty of calculus early.
  • - I teach students the R language and use it to explore various calculus concepts. This way they learn coding on the background by solving math puzzles.
  • - I present precalculus topics through an animation project built by the students. They learn linear algebra, matrices and trigonometry concepts, while implementing the swinging motion of a pendulum.
  • - I simplify memorization of trigonometric equations by making extensive use of Euler's formula. Physicist Richard Feynman called Euler's identity 'the most remarkable formula in mathematics', because it makes math so easy !
